2nd Place July 09 Extended back cracking, gratuitous kitten footage, chest hair ripping, cheesy acting, gratuitous back hair, crazed kungfu sound track, gratuitous slow motion footage... Oh, and CHUCK F'ING NORRIS and BRUCE Freakin LEE!!! Easily the most awesome superstar collision in movie history. Too bad it wasn't a more of an even fight. Its hard to tell what would really happen if these two met. Bruce was incredible, but did very few martial arts competitions. Chuck was a middleweight professional karate champion for six consecutive years and ended with a record of 183-10-2. When these two met in this 1972, Bruce Lee simply had too much star power to give Chuck any chance. Regardless of the reality of this fight scene, it launched Chuck's career, and today in Asia, Chuck is still known primarily for this scene. I guess no one has yet translated the Chuck Norris facts to Chinese.

Chuck Norris also starred in one of the most un-awesome fight scenes ever: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wOBZqtZGI9M

What gets overlooked in all the "Chuck Norris facts" hyperbole is that he actually is an impressive martial artist. He's someone who was karate champion for six straight years and is an 8th Degree Black Belt Grand Master.
And Bruce Lee was a master of both Wing Chun Gung Fu *and* won the 1958 Boxing Championship before founding Jun Fan Gung Fu. This is a fight between two extraordinary martial artists. Without any sarcasm, hyperbole or nonsense, it's an awesome event. Without sarcasm, that's actually awesome. reply high five
I agree with you in the fact that both Chuck and Bruce are extremely skilled martial artists and that a battle between the two is totally awesome. The only thing that I don't like about this is that it's a staged fight. We really don't know what a real fight between the two would look like. Plus the fight that was staged isn't very long or horribly thrilling.
That and the fact that GW's WW has impacted my life in multiple ways, my vote goes to the Wonka.

My understanding is that there is little debate in real Martial Arts circles. Norris would have kicked Lee's a**. I think the thought is that the result would have looked something like Lawrence Fishburn playing Bobby Fischer in chess. One knew how to look like a great Martial Artist, the other knew how to fight. I'd love to hear the opinion of someone who is in the know however.

See, and I completely disagree. Karate is too static. Karate is great in a fight with Karate practitioners, but it's very linear and static, and doesn't favor thinking outside of the box. Bruce was all about having no form. Using whatever tools were necessary to defeat an opponent. So if Karate was the right tool, pull that out of your bag. If it took some Wing Chung to get in close and put some shots in the best and face, go to Wing Chung. I'm sure these two actually sparred in real life, and I'm sure you could ask Linda Lee what really happened.

Yeah, and I completely retract myself from any argument here. I'm just quoting things people told me. I don't really know very much about martial arts personally, other than spending my teenage years watching about 6000 kung fu films!

Sorry, this is a reply for Ivan, but for some reason it wasn't letting me...god bless the wonders of ancient Russian built technology...anywho...I have had countless discussions about who would actually have won that fight. The simple truth is Bruce Lee was the better martial artist, cleaner moves, faster strikes, smoother transitions...but that does not account for the reach and size of Chuck...I do not remember who actually fought this but its somewhat of a legend around the martial arts circles but there was a fight between a boxer and a martial arts champion a few years back with the basic result of the martial artist being able to hit the boxer many times before being hit once, but a single punch from the pro-boxer was enough knock the martial artist out cold. I often envision the same result, but Bruce Lee could also pack quite a wallop...The simple truth is that we will never know and the imagination and wonder involved in a what-if scenario like that is part of what makes Bruce vs. Chuck so awesome, because this footage is about the only evidence we will ever have to go on.
That wonder in itself is far greater in my opinion than a bunch of bratty kids who learn a lesson because of doing something stupid in a factory, isn't that why we abolished child labor?

Mr. Wonka was an otherwise shining moment in my bleak childhood. That makes him awesome above, almost, all others.

If that is your rational for awesomeness, I gonna nominate Popeye starring Robin Williams. It was directed by Robert Altman, so there's that.

Out of respect for the truth you have spoken, I will post any Chuck Norris facts this round.
As for the argument about who would win - Norris may have been a karate champion: but Lee developed his own martial art, proved it's effectiveness against traditional forms, and taught Norris. reply high five The Dude commented ( about Chuck Norris vs. Bruce Lee ) on 7/27/2009
This is a great matchup, but I would have liked to have seen Bruce Lee versus Muhammad Ali. That would have been the dream match. For me anyway.

Way of the Dragon was always my favourite Bruce Lee film. Not just because of Chuck, but I loved the way Lee fought against armed men with nothing more than shapened sticks, and that corny line at the line. I also liked the way the Chinese speak in Mardarin with subtitles, and all the "foreigners" (be they Italian, Japanese or American) speak English.
I second Rokne's prediction that Norris vs Lee will will this month, but I think the literal videos will also do well. reply high five Olav Rokne commented ( about Chuck Norris vs. Bruce Lee ) on 7/3/2009
Here are my early predictions and favourites:
1) Chuck Vs. Bruce 2) Marilyn Monroe 3) The Extent of the Universe In that order. As much as I love Pizzazz, I don't think that even the weight of all the 'z's in her name will get her very far. reply high five
