Che Guevara
CHE GUEVARA
Rank: Tom Ivan Awesomeoff
Nominated by Ivan Awesomeoff

Che Guevara has become a symbol of counter culture. He went from doctor to diplomat with his revolutionary stand against fascism. Che's guerrilla tactics may seem controversial to some and to others heroic. Che truly dedicated his life to fight for social justice. Jean-Paul Sartre called Che Guevara "the most complete human being of our age"

I think you have all, on both sides, missed what is so awesome about Che Guevera.. his face is tattooed on Mike Tyson's belly: reply

I can't find any evidence that anyone has ever tattoo'd Teddy Roosevelt's image on their bodies. Teddy Bear tattoos are everywhere, but I don't think they are very awesome. reply

Totally. The controversy and confusion over Che this month is fitting when you throw Mike Tyson's tattoos in the mix. That lovely number he did on his face was so meaningful to him that he started extolling the inspiration he got from the Aztec people. Of course the face tattoo is a Maori design, not Aztec. You have to love a guy who will get a tattoo on his face, and not be able to guess within 7,000 miles of the people who created it. Makes you wonder who convinced him the Che tattoo was a good idea. Does Tyson strike you as a communist? reply

At least he didn't get Che's face tattooed on his FACE. That would be awkward. reply

Mike Tyson is kind of a Chindogu to a fight promoter. He is used to make you a lot of money, but he might make you look like a total a** too. reply

I am no Che Guevara scholar, though I know possibly more about the man and his writings than many who canonize or vilify the man. I simply think with everything that "awesome" means and encompasses, Che was truly awesome. Not everything that was awesome needs to be terribly admirable. Tidal Waves that wipe out continents inspire awe. As a man, a thinker, and a revolutionary, I am in awe of Che reply

Yeah, seriously dude. What the hell does 9/11 have to do with Che Guevara??? Che Guevara lived and died to fight the kind of tyranny that people like Saddam Hussein stood for. You don't have to like him, but it would be well, awesome, if you found an argument against him that didn't involved unrelated incidents that happened in a different country 34 years after his death. reply

Well, I can see where Yorky is coming from, unfortanetely I think he is a tad bit misguided. Che Guevara was a murderer plain and simple, he was known as the "Butcher" in Cuba for a reason. He ran the military tribunals at La Cabana where he had many people murdered and executed, look to the memoirs Javier Arzuaga, he talks about comforting those sentanced to die (he was a catholic priest at the prison) many of the people were executed on the bases that Che found them suspicious. Also read in the Sierra Maestra about Che's own acount of shooting a peasant, simply named Aristidio, because he wanted to go back to his village and be with his family. He loved conflict, not justice and peace. Yes, he did fight tyranny, but replaced it with his own. which I don't consider a positive thing.

Also, being able to simultaneously stab someone in the back and spit in their face? I hate to say it, but that's borderline awesome right there. reply

Che was a revolutionary and a hero for alot of people including myself. The term terrorist is being thrown around far to casually these days imho. It is blind "patriotism" like this comment that is causing the low opinion of The United States on an global scale. reply
