Tournament of Champions!!

September 2nd - October 21st, 2009
Well, it was a tough tournament, the best of the best were front and center. But Walking on the moon went back to back, winning the August AwesomeOff, and then capturing the tournament of Champions crown. When the dust settled Walking on the Moon has accumulated a 68-1 record, and is by far the greatest entry ever to appear on AwesomeOff. Captain Kirk was the 5th seed going into the playoffs, but clawed his way all the way to the finals. Aurora Borealis had another great showing, landing the 2nd seed, but fell in the 2nd round of the playoffs to #10 Wingsuit Base Jumping. Teddy Roosevelt was the #3 seed, but fell in the playoffs to the much larger an smarter #11 seed, the Library of Congress.

August 2009 Champion

In a shocking two-peat, a second intersteller nominations by Love of the Awesome took the title. Once again science and space have taken the AwesomeOff title. August was a truly great month, Mark Twain took second, Empeor Norton got third and Jesus Riding a Dinosaur rounded out the top four. But in the end, getting out of a 1960s technology space ship and walking on the moon was just too damn cool to pass up.

July 2009 Champion

It was not a common month. Many said it could not be quantified, that a clear leader never emerged. In the end, it was an almost unfair outcome, as what is really more awesome than the Extent of the Universe? The universe is not funny, or entertaining, there are few great fire-side stories about it, but it is totally awesome, mind-blowing, incredible.

So AweseomeOff got a little scientific this month, but the lines of the other top contenders just didn't blow minds. But there was still a lot of awesome with Gene Wilder's Willy Wonka, Hunter S. Thompson, Mystery Science Theature 3000, IZ, Litteral Video Versions and the incredible Chuck Norris vs. Bruce Lee. Thanks again to everone who nominated and made it a great month.

June 2009 Champion

Well Roosevelt sealed the deal in amazing fashion. 24-0 leaves Teddy the most decorated AwesomeOff champion. In the first two months of AwesomeOff two other champions came through undefeated—Crop Circles (14-0) and Little Superstar(10-0)—but these records are no comparison to what Teddy accomplished.

It's an interesting statement to elect someone as great as Teddy, on a site that has recognized professional video game players, adreneline junkies, Mister Rogers (doing the wave)... Teddy does stand out, and yet somehow fits in, in his own way. I wonder, does Teddy stand out more in the list of AwesomeOff champions, or in the list of American Presidents?

All in all, it was an incredible month. Seeing how far James Earl Jones counts to 10 made it, makes me happy to know this audience has not lost its sense of humor (even after logging about 500 messages about terrorists, 9/11 and Che.

May 2009 Champion

CONGRATULATIONS to the Brick Testament! Our eighth Awesomeoff champion was named at midnight, June 4th, 2009. We feel Brick Testament is one of the greatest champions, and the fact that its creator is an AwesomeOff registered user makes the win all the more special.

It was not an easy or expected road for BT, yet another #1 seed, Captain Kirk had to falter before it could be crowned. That happened when BT beat Kick in the semis. The Man With No Name beat Sir Earnest Henry Shackleton as well, and The Man With No Name vs. The Brick Testament was our final match. All four final contenders were some of the most awesome of all time.

April 2009 Champion

April was called by many the most awesome month in AwesomeOff history. The top eight that made the playoffs were incredible, but even the next group before them could have been playoff contenders in previous months. I mean, if Lamborghinis & Delorians ended up with a .500 record, it must have been awesome.

The playoffs were hard fought, Brawndo, Rollerman, Space Invader Invasion and Paul Bunyan all defeated their lesser ranked opponents in the first round. In the second round both matches changed leaders multiple times, but in the end Brawndo and Bunyan fell to Rollerman and Space Invader Invasion. This set up the first time ever ALL FRENCH FINALS! Both Rollerman and Space Invader are Parisians, both are really awesome. Rollerman proved to be just a little more awesome and became the April 2009 champion.

March 2009 Champion

March was a civil and sporting month. Some called it the most depraved month, with the likes of moonshine, hot chicks with guns, zombies, guns and liquor drive thru, subdermal implants, Bukowski, beer maids and the Phuket Vegetarian Festival. There was also great art and innovation with The White Zombie, Sandcastlemat, Ronald Jenkees, Rock-afire Explosion, Ski Dubai, Toothpick Beard, and Scraper Bikes. The month was rounded out with some interesting entries like Ralph Wiggum, brand new white socks, Kryptonite, and centaurs. But in the end, it was an alarm clock that wakes you up with the sweet smell of crackling bacon. A truly great invention that helps define the concept of being awesome! February 2009 Champion

February was the month of MLG. Gamers flooded the site to spread the word that professional gaming is here to stay... and totally awesome. After a quick 0-2 start MLG won the next 27 matches and became the first entry ever to face all other opponents in the preliminary round. Despite this however, Wingsuit Base Jumping claimed the title of #1 seed entering the playoffs, having lost only once in the round robin. MLG's streak continued, setting a record in the semi-finals for the most points ever logged in an AwesomeOff. The finals was a bit more contested as the Badass Mountain Men waged a mid-day surge. In the end MLG could not be denied and was crowned the February Champion.

January 2009 Champion

January was totally awesome. Mister Rogers doing the Wave set a new standard for what a champion should look like. Freerunning came damn close, remaining undefeated until the final match. President Barak Obama made a stunning run to the final four, but just could not get past Freerunning, and Black Holes rounded out the final four as the second celestial entry to make it that far.

December 2008 Champion

The awesomeness of this December will not be soon forgotten. Robocop on a Unicorn came so close, as did Transformer Costumes and Narwhals. There was awesomeness from nature, television, exercise, youtube, science and science fiction—but in the end, the champion came from AwesomeOff's first-ever foray into sport: Roller Derby.

November 2008 Champion

The November tournament was incredible. For the second straight month the overall winner went undefeated. For the second straight month the finals were a rematch from a round robin pairing. Crop circles could not be denied, a perfect 14-0 record and it kicked a lot of ass along the way. We couldn't help but feel some love for El Chupacabra, and many other elements in November's competition, but nothing could touch crop circles in the end.

October 2008 Champion

The October tournament was our first foray into the world of matching awesome versus awesome. Little Superstar(10-0) went pole to pole, beating out the shaved ballcap in the finals, to be not only the first ever AwesomeOff Champion, but the first undefeated one. All entries in season one were priceless, the start could not have been less humble, or more awesome.
