In 1969, tension was high as many Americans were unhappy with the War in Vietnam. So naturally, when Jimi Hendrix performed his rendition of the Star-Spangled Banner (with bombs bursting in air) people took it as a political statement. But Jimi says it simply sounded "beautiful". He gave life to something that he believed had grown stagnant. His version of the National Anthem has become a symbol of the 1960's.
