Oh god. I need to check the rules. I wonder if there has to be a winner in every match? can we just give these both a loss? I would definitely vote none of the above if I could, but I'll go Pizzazz, simply because her song is less likely to get stuck in my head. reply

Sweeeeeet,

Praying mantis is the embodyment of cool. The only insect I would vote as an equal would maybe be a walking stick. And thats not a solid maybe, more like a should I stick my finger in this electrical socket maybe. reply

Rank: Klinger Yorky
Yorky commented ( about Chuck Norris vs. Bruce Lee ) at 6:53am cdt
Way of the Dragon was always my favourite Bruce Lee film. Not just because of Chuck, but I loved the way Lee fought against armed men with nothing more than shapened sticks, and that corny line at the line. I also liked the way the Chinese speak in Mardarin with subtitles, and all the "foreigners" (be they Italian, Japanese or American) speak English.

I second Rokne's prediction that Norris vs Lee will will this month, but I think the literal videos will also do well. reply

Rank: Klinger HGxPerry
HGxPerry commented ( about Congress Ave Bridge Bats vs. Vampires ) at 6:48am cdt
If not for the specificness of the bats, I'd say this was a redundant matchup. I've seen a large group of bats take flight out of a cave before, and it is indeed very memorable and cool. Vampires, however, can hibernate. Checkmate. reply

Isaac Brock said, in the form of the Modest Mouse song "3rd Planet" that "the universe is shaped exactly like the Earth. If you go straight long enough you'll end up where you were". Wowzers. Just think about that for a second. reply

This group is very open. Other than Chuck vs Bruce (awesome in theory, the fight is actually a little anticlimactic, but pretty much a sure thing for the playoffs) anyone could make the playoffs. This will be a very interesting month. reply

BoxMan is Rippin commented ( about Gene Wilder's Willy Wonka ) at 12:36am cdt
Yes. Yes. More yes. Gene Wilder's Willy Wonka really has impacted my life. Not only is he a candy maker, he also is very philosophic and eccentric which is awesome. Plus, Gene Wilder is one of the greatest actors of all time. I love it so much, I named my dodgeball team "Wonka's Favorites" and made shirts with Gene's face on it. Great nominee. reply

Why thank you my good man. Gene Wilder has pretty much achieved God status in my book, and it all started with Willy Wonka.

Both are awesome. But I guess that mantises narrowly win because I found three tiny young ones at work yesterday. They can also live 16 years in captivity. That's ancient for insects. Also, to be fair to the male, the female only eats his head if she is hungry. reply

I gotta say that Teddy Roosevelt may be the first AwesomeOff winner that won me over as the most awesome candidate the minute I saw him as a nominee. I've agreed with a number of the winners, but most of them had to win me over throughout the month - not so with Teddy! In fact, I predicted he'd be the winner way back on June 7th. I'm also pretty pleased that my 1st nominee ever made it all the way to the playoffs. I can't wait to see the July nominees! reply

OK, I don't want to stir up any rancor over this, and I know I'm a day late and a dollar short for suggesting someone else as patron saint of lieutenants on Awesomeoff, but I'd like to point out one thing. I would assume there would be general agreement that the A-Team deserves representation in the Awesomeoff rank system. The most obvious choice would be Sgt. Bosco "B.A." Baracus, but the Sergeant slot is already taken. There's Capt. H.M. "Howling Mad" Murdock, but I have to imagine that the captain slot is being reserved for Kirk. Should we perhaps consider Lt. Templeton 'Faceman' Peck for the Lieutenant slot? Clearly he's the least awesome of the A-team members, but that in itself is kind of awesome. If it's out of the question to switch the patron saints of Sergeants or Lieutenant, can I at least get some guarantee that the Colonel slot will go to Col. John 'Hannibal' Smith? I also suggest enacting this before the 2010 A-Team remake movie comes out and ruins everything. reply

I was just thinking that Colonel needed to be Sanders. His secret blend of 11 herbs and spices is truly Awesome. And since you mentioned it, Maybe the rank above four-star General needs to be "Rancor". That would be pretty sweet. Although I shutter to think at the lack of occupying hobbies it would take to get above four-star General. reply

In honour of this month's winner, may I recommend the following books: The Rise of Theodore Roosevelt by Edmond Morris and Theodore Rex by Edmond Morris. The first two volumes of this Pulitzer Prize-winning biography are truely astounding, awesome, and they are what led me to nominate him. As I haven't read the third volume, I cannot endorse it (I'm not even certain if it is out yet.) reply

Yeah, I stand corrected. Both Little Superstar and Crop Circles went undefeated. But, Little Superstar only had 10 matches, and Crop Circles only had 14. So, Teddy went undefeated with a lot more exposure, and in my opinion, a lot tougher body of nominees. reply

May 2009 Champion

CONGRATULATIONS to the Brick Testament! Our eighth Awesomeoff champion was named at midnight, June 4th, 2009. We feel Brick Testament is one of the greatest champions, and the fact that its creator is an AwesomeOff registered user makes the win all the more special.

It was not an easy or expected road for BT, yet another #1 seed, Captain Kirk had to falter before it could be crowned. That happened when BT beat Kick in the semis. The Man With No Name beat Sir Earnest Henry Shackleton as well, and The Man With No Name vs. The Brick Testament was our final match. All four final contenders were some of the most awesome of all time.

April 2009 Champion

April was called by many the most awesome month in AwesomeOff history. The top eight that made the playoffs were incredible, but even the next group before them could have been playoff contenders in previous months. I mean, if Lamborghinis & Delorians ended up with a .500 record, it must have been awesome.

The playoffs were hard fought, Brawndo, Rollerman, Space Invader Invasion and Paul Bunyan all defeated their lesser ranked opponents in the first round. In the second round both matches changed leaders multiple times, but in the end Brawndo and Bunyan fell to Rollerman and Space Invader Invasion. This set up the first time ever ALL FRENCH FINALS! Both Rollerman and Space Invader are Parisians, both are really awesome. Rollerman proved to be just a little more awesome and became the April 2009 champion.

July is Unleashed

Well, here we go again. The 10th season of AwesomeOff is upon us! Many great nominations were logged this month, no worries if yours didn't make it. We can only do so much the reasons why one makes it over another are extremely varied.

What did make it looks to make up one of the more quirky months. From litteraly nominees like Hunter S. Thompson, to the science of things like non-Newtonian Liquid and the Extent of the Universe, so some just good old fashion awesome like Converse All Stars—It will be a pretty interesting month.

Will something this month make a run at the record Teddy Roosevelt just put up? Or instead, will Mock Apple Pie lose its title? We'll know for sure in 28 days.

Thank you very much to all that nominated and made the case for your awesome. You are the heart and soul of AwesomeOff.

If you have not already, create an account or Login. Votes by logged in users are worth three times as much as anonymous votes.
